ULI Study: Immigrants Driving Household Growth

Immigrants Driving Housing Demand A newly published study by the Urban Land Institute’s Terwilliger Center for Housing found that immigrant families are responsible for 28% of household growth in the United States over the last two decades. The study, Home in America: Immigrants and Housing Demand, evaluated five different types of immigrant communities in five different major metropolitan areas–San Francisco, Houston, Minneapolis, Buffalo, Charlotte, and Minneapolis-Saint Paul. MnDOT Technical Assistance Panel Featured in UrbanLand Magazine

Last June, ULI Minnesota convened a Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) on behalf of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, focused on freeway lid opportunities along I-94 and at I-35W near Washington Avenue in downtown Minneapolis. This project looked at how MnDOT can develop a 21st century strategy for freeway construction and was our organization’s biggest and most complex TAP to date. The result was a concept called the Healthy Communities Initiative aimed at restoring the physical, environmental, economic and social health of communities along the interstate. Finance & Commerce: MnDOT Digs into Driverless Bus Technology

Over at Finance & Commerce, Clare Kennedy writes about the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s (MnDOT) February 2nd launch of a project to explore the use of autonomous buses in Minnesota. Motivated by the potential of autonomous vehicles to improve safety, MnDOT believes it is important to help advance the performance of autonomous vehicles in a climate that is much more varied than the California testing grounds where most research and development is taking place. ULI Minnesota convenes “Southwest LRT: A Story of Collaboration and Development”

On Wednesday, January 11th, ULI Minnesota convened a forum in the St. Louis Park City Hall Council Chambers to share how the prospect of light rail transit (LRT) catalyzed corridor-wide collaboration among Hennepin County and the five cities with stations along the proposed route.
