Housing Initiative

In This Section

  1. Opportunity City Program

The Housing Initiative builds on collaborative relationships among ULI Minnesota and the Regional Council of Mayors to implement tools and strategies that support a full range of housing choices – a diverse mix of housing types, sizes and prices within the region, within cities and within neighborhoods – for economic stability and regional prosperity. This work has been made possible by the generous financial support from the Family Housing Fund.

Housing Counts

HousingCounts.org: Support a Full Range of Housing Choices

The Family Housing Fund and ULI Minnesota have teamed up to provide a comprehensive collection of tools and supports for a full range of housing choices in the Minneapolis/St. Paul region. Our work, developed in many ways with many talented partners, is most effective when it is located in one place that is easy to find and user-friendly. It was in that spirit that HousingCounts.org was created.

There are a wide variety of resources available on HousingCounts.org. The site is already home to interactive tools such as the Mixed Income Housing Calculator, policy best practices found in the Minnesota Housing Policy Toolbox, links to the latest regional data, and more! We are fortunate to have multiple organizations, collaborations, and champions that have led to this immense body of work that will:

  1. Increase the number of new housing units affordable to low- and moderate-income households,
  2. Preserve existing housing units affordable to low- and moderate-income households, and
  3. Improve access to housing units affordable to low- and moderate-income households.

We are continuously updating and improving Housingcounts.org, and we welcome any additional information or feedback that will ensure this online resource is relevant and up to date.

Thanks for being a partner in this important work!

Opportunity City Program

The ULI MN/RCM Housing Initiative’s Opportunity City Program is a comprehensive, centralized, sustainable, learning community that provides support and resources to local municipal officials who seek to provide a full range of housing choices in their community. The program enables peer-to-peer learning, technical assistance and best practices dissemination, and is made possible by the generous financial support of the Family Housing Fund. Download the full 2009 report summarizing the program here.

Southwest Transit Corridor Report

In partnership with Hennepin County, who completed corridor-level community change reports that profiled household characteristics within one mile of each station area, and labor and commute shed patterns. Download the full report here.
