“I’ve broadened my perspective, contributed to meaningful regional conversations, and established a strong professional network. The experience has been a fun mix of learning and doing.” Danyelle Pierquet, RLA, LANDFORM project lead, Past co-chair ULI MN Young Leaders Group

Young Leaders Group

The ULI Minnesota Young Leaders Group (YLG) is a forum for young professionals and students involved in the Minnesota real estate community for ULI members under 35 years. The YLG offers unique opportunities for networking with peers while gaining exposure to senior industry professionals.  With nearly 100 active members and its own Advisory Board, YLG continues to grow, attracting some of the region’s best and brightest young talent.

YLG Committee Structure and Activities

YLG Executive Committee

The YLG Executive Committee is comprised of experienced ULI volunteers who plan the strategic direction for all other YLG committees. This committee represents the leadership for ULI Minnesota members under 35. Members actively engage young members at ULI events, participate in one of the YLG Committees (Grow, Learn, Develop, Exchange), and provide ideas for new or enhanced YLG initiatives. This committee meets for one hour on a bi-monthly basis. Members serve a 1-year term with terms being renewed based on the member’s interest and Executive Committee approval. ULI membership is required for this committee.

Develop: YLG Mentorship Program Committee

The Mentorship Program provides participants an opportunity to share and discuss ideas facing real estate, planning, and design professionals in a small group format. This committee is looking for individuals who are interested in organizing the mentor program each year, joining a mentor group, bringing insight from past experience in any mentorship program, and have interest in designing a program that maximizes the benefit for all participants. This committee meets for one hour on a monthly basis with most work occurring in the late summer and early fall. ULI membership is required for this committee.

Grow: YLG Membership Committee

The Grow Committee works to strengthen the relationships between existing YLG members and increase student and young professional membership in ULI. The committee hosts P2P (Peer to Peer), a series of small-group, in-depth discussions focused on specific topics of interest. In addition, the Grow Committee hosted two speed-networking events for students and young professionals. This committee works to make sure that YLG programming is advertised and accessible to potential new members. The Grow Committee is right for you if you have ideas about networking, are part of existing organizations that are potential ULI partners, or are an alumnus or current student at a school in the region with a program related to the ULI mission. The Grow Committee also plans and executes the YLG Holiday/New Year Party. This committee meets for one hour on a monthly basis. ULI membership is required for this Committee.

Learn: YLG Programming Committee

This committee works to plan and facilitate educational programming. The primary event planned by this committee is the YLG Annual Program, which is typically scheduled for the first week in March. YLG Annual Programs have been great successes! Each year the program attracts a wide variety of attendees with cutting edge topics. If you are interested in choosing new and innovative topics and locations as well as recruiting national and local speakers, consider joining the Learn committee. This committee meets for one hour on a monthly basis with most work occurring in the winter. ULI membership is required for this committee.

Exchange: YLG Exchange Program Committee

The Exchange Committee will work on the application process and planning efforts associated with hosting the YLG Exchange in Minnesota for the upcoming exchange in 2019. The YLG Exchange facilitates the cross-collaboration and exchange of ideas and connections of Young Leaders across the District Councils. The Exchange is typically a day and a half long event designed around a market tour that allows attendees to visit up-and-coming neighborhoods, talk with top local developers, tour new transformative projects, and learn more about the host city. This program provides the opportunity to meet other Young Leaders from across the Americas, share best practices, create friendships, and expand their networks.  This committee meets for one hour on a monthly basis. ULI membership is required for this committee.
